The Green Turtle Lodge - Proper Paradise

After our short stay around Busua and Dixcove we wanted to spend some time in a place that really was relaxing. A lot of Bradt guide users had mentioned the Green Turtle Lodge, well out of the way down a dirt road following the coast westwards, a secluded paradise. It was here we decided to head. On arriving it was much more obvious that this is how a tropical beach ‘resort’ should be. Again we could take the car right up to the beach and setup camp around the palm trees it was pretty close to heaven. Owned by a very friendly British couple Tom and Jo who didn’t seem to mind us boiling up rice and sauce in the back of the landrover, not to mention hacking at coconuts with a blunt machete. The guesthouse prides itself on the use of environmentally sound techniques such as solar powered huts and self-composting toilets to name but a few. Here we could really settle into the chilled out Ghanain easy living without a Rasta in sight! We were more careful with the bar tab than on previous occasions too so didn’t feel too guilty about lazing around either.

A bit of a table tennis obsession was started aswell and there were some pretty furious rallies going on which burned off the morning bread and ground-nut butter. Again there was no real surf to talk of except a pretty heavy shore break which was fun when swimming around but unrideable on a board.

After a couple of days at the Green Turtle we decided to head on further to a surf spot recommended by Tom and most of the guides called Three Cape Points.
