After a nice relaxing break in Marrakesh - wandering peacefully round the city, we headed back out west Pet Shop Boys style to the town of Essouaira.
This is a fairly touristy fishing port with Spanish/Portuguese upbringing. Sadly no surf here but a very pleasent place all in all. After finding the campsite we setup the tent and strolled into town. Keenly on our tails however was the campsite guard dog who had neither an owner nor a name. The hound acted as though we were its new keepers as it bounded over the dunes on our way down the sea front to the fish market playfully jumping over fences and sniffing other dogs. We were more relieved than worried when the thing disappeared off in a different direction - leaving us in peace.
Dinner consisted of the days catch in a shed on the quayside, we were asked to select a fish and once weighed a price was semi-agreed and the lucky one was taken out back for gutting and grilling.

On return to the campsite we were met by a very concerned owner who after 3 hours and the onset of nightfall was wondering where his dog was. He stated how we had been seen taking the dog down the road and was keen to know what we had done to it! After reassuring him that it chased/followed us he was mildly contented and we went to drink whisky and gin back at the tent. To cut a long and very poorly told story short - the dog survived turning up when it had had enough of running free and got hungry.
Anyway below are pics of town.
Enjoy.
