We decided that as we had travelled so far up the road from Mopti to the Hand of Fatima etc. that we should continue and go into Niger and down a better, tarmac toll road to Burkina Faso. This also means more stamps in passport (always good). There was a slight niggle in the back of the mind that due to the fact that we did not have Niger Visas we were up for some heavy corruption at the border and cash machines are scarce so we were relying on what was still left in the safe.
The border crossing was a partial success in the fact that the visa we obtained was standard price, however it is for an entire month, slightly wasted on us as only here for number of days.
Despte all the hurrah on the news before we left and i’m sure currently it is a rather nice and friendly place and certainly in the south there is no sign of a great drought or famine, it may however be a different story further north? I don’t know?
We are currently camping in Niamey in a rather surreal but pleasent place which would be well suited to having a bowls green and tennis courts! Back on the big beers again aswell for half the price of a Gazelle! Take note Senegal!
The plan from here is to drive West to Ouagadougou and then continue our progress towards Ghana for Christmas.
